Central Texas sports fans, unite!

Home to a variety of sports teams across various disciplines, central Texans with an interest in sports are in luck. Whether it be football, basketball, baseball, or soccer, there is no shortage of games and events to look forward to in this part of the Lone Star State.

 

Football

The most popular sport in Texas is undoubtedly football, and the central Texas region is home to some of the most competitive high school and college football teams in the state. One of the most anticipated upcoming games is the annual Battle of the Brazos between Baylor University and Texas A&M University. This historic rivalry dates back to 1899 and has been rekindled in recent years following a hiatus. The game will take place at Kyle Field in College Station on September 24th and is sure to be a thrilling matchup.

 

Baseball

Another beloved central Texas pastime, the area is home to several minor-league baseball teams, including The Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, and one of the most popular teams in the area, the Round Rock Express, as well as the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, the San Antonio Missions.

 

Basketball

Another extremely popular sport in central Texas is basketball. With the University of Texas at Austin and Baylor University both fielding competitive men’s and women’s teams, the Texas Longhorns men’s team, led by head coach Chris Beard, will be looking to make a statement in the Big 12 Conference this year. They have a tough schedule ahead, including games against conference powerhouses Kansas and Baylor. On the other hand, the Baylor Bears men’s team will be defending their national championship title from last year. 

 

Soccer

Although not nearly as popular as football, basketball, or baseball, soccer has an audience in central Texas. New to Major League Soccer (MLS) and playing their first season this year, is the  Austin FC. The team will be playing their home games at Q2 Stadium in Austin and there is already a lot of excitement among local fans. 

 

From football to basketball, baseball to soccer, central Texas offers a sport for everyone to enjoy. With a number of upcoming games and events on the horizon, sports fans in the region have plenty to look forward to.
